Sunday, September 20 - Get Counted
The 2020 Census deadline is now upon us! If you haven’t yet filled out your census form you are able to complete yours today (online) or by phone (1-844-330-2020).
If you would like to support the Queens-wide Census Drive on September 26th, click here for more details about the day’s activities or RSVP on Facebook.
Census results help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year. And remember, when you respond to the census, your answers are kept anonymous. They are used only to produce statistics, determining where to build roads, hospitals, schools, and so much more!
The census deadline is Wednesday, September 30th. Complete your census online (click here), by phone (call 1-844-330-2020), or in person at the following locations: L/CPL Thomas P. Noonan Jr. Playground, 46th Street Bliss Plaza Station, and Woodside Memorial Park—click locations for dates and times.
Back to School Support
To support back to school efforts, SWMA is in the process of gathering resources on childcare and school guidelines, as well as developing plans to organize donation drives for supplies.
If you have specific requests, suggestions, or would like to share additional information, please reach out by phone, email, or on slack. In the meantime, check out some of the gathered information and resources highlighted in our August 30 newsletter.

Woodside Sunnyside Composting Collective
Woodside Sunnyside Composting Collective is still collecting signatures for their petition to turn the proposed new park in the Sunnyside Gardens Historic District into a temporary community composting site. The petition also calls for the area to be used to grow food for families in need of additional support.

Elmhurst Community Fridge
Elmhurst Community Fridge located at All the Right (91-30 Corona Avenue, Elmhurst, NY 11373). Since its inauguration on July 31st, the community has fed a vast number of families through the fridge. Recently they have run into a time sensitive issue with the landlord and need the community’s help. The landlord has brought up some concerns surrounding upcoming weather and safety issues related to the fridge. The petition seeks to show broad community support and to develop legal guidance for all involved.

P.S. Don’t forget, if you plan to attend a protest, Amnesty International has developed a toolkit for how to do so safely and Mask On Zone has created an Anti Surveillance Protest Guide.
